Kids and Boxes - Mcdonald's Happy Meals TV Commercial Ad

Kids and Boxes - Mcdonald's Happy Meals TV Commercial Ad

This advert shows kids having fun and finding joy from playing with boxes. Which creates the message that kids love boxes; happy meals come inside boxes and kids love happy meals. Therefor there’s representation that the boxes at the start are like the boxes that happy meals come in.

1)      This message was created by the company of McDonalds.
2)      There were many creative techniques used. One of them being the music they used; at the beginning before we see any children we can hear the very start of the ‘Bugsy Malone- we could have been anything that we wanted to be’ which creates suspense, and then it builds up into the song. This creates a happy mood which is what they want to portray as the kids are happy playing with the boxes. Another technique used is the question ‘What is it with kids and boxes?’ is shown, this shows they are using representation that those boxes that the kids were playing with represented a McDonalds happy meal box.
3)      I don’t think people would understand this message much differently to me but people could say that children love surprises and boxes can bring surprises like a happy meal does and this adds the excitement to the meal.
4)      The values omitted to me are happiness and fun; children love to have fun and if they’re having fun they’re happy. This means that parents watching this will want their child to be happy and the idea of a happy meal is very inviting to them.
The lifestyle that is omitted to me is regular, happy children therefor they must have a happy family because it’s unlikely to have a happy child if it comes from an unhappy family.
The points of view that are shown are that kids enjoy the element of surprise and they enjoy when they can be in the environment where they can use their imagination to their full ability.
5)      This message is being sent because McDonalds want parents to believe their happy meals provide happiness and excitement, through the element of surprise, to their children. They want to sell as many as they can so they use happy children in their advert to show how every parent wants their child to be.
